The Trip

You are invited to join 60 other students on a 3-week bicycle ride from Bloomington to Nova Scotia? Impossible? Well ... it's up to YOU to decide! This can be an amazing achievement for any student-aged adventurer. You can do it ... it's been done before and it is FUN!

The trip begins with a hometown celebration and sendoff in Bloomington, Indiana. It will take 4-days to reach Sandusky, Ohio for the first rest day at Cedar Point Amusement Park, considered the roller coaster capital of the world. At this point depending on the route selected around Lake Erie, the deCycles will either visit the Ford Museum in Detroit or the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. The first weekend will be in Niagara Falls for a wonderful rest day of sightseeing.

The second week, the group will pedal one of two routes around Lake Ontario to arrive in Portland, Maine for the 4th of July weekend. Along the way, the deCycles will travel through beautiful upstate New York, the Adirondack Mountains, the Green and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire, and the pristine forests and coast of Maine. Depending on the route selected around Lake Ontario, the group may also visit Toronto and Montreal.

Week #3 will begin with an overnight ferry cruise from Portland to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The deCycles will then pedal the entire length of Nova Scotia to the farthest eastern point of the North American continent. The Canadian scenery in Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island is breathtaking. The group will end the trip on the beautiful Cabot Trail as they pack up for a 2-day road trip and homecoming celebration back in Bloomington on July 11-12.

For deCycles 2014 veterans, this trip completes a cross country cycling trip from the most southern to the most eastern point in North America.  Likewise for deCycles 2012 veterans, this trip completes a transcontinental coast to coast trip.  How many teenagers have literally criss-crossed the entire nation on a bicycle?  Wow, not many!  For the rookies, you can't be on a better deCycles trip than this one.

This is an international trip, so if your age is 19 years or over, you will need a passport for border crossings. Those between 13-18 years of age who are U.S. citizens will only need a copy of their birth certificate and photo ID along with a parental consent form. Deadline for these items will be announced.

This trip is loaded with exciting scenery, great biking roads, and loads of off-bike fun. Beginner and adult cyclists are welcome.  Register early because the roster fills quickly.  This is the best deal you'll ever find on a 3-week summer adventure.
